History
In November 2007, Bishop Ingham announced that two new teaching programs would be authorised for use by catechists in 2008. Those programs were implemented by most parishes in 2008 and all parishes in 2009. The mandated programs are the CCD Religious Education Program for Kindergarten and Christ Our Light and Life from the Archdiocese of Sydney. Please note that catechists teaching Kindergarten may use either the Diocesan Kinder Program or the kinder program from Christ Our Light and Life.” These programs meet the legislative requirements of the NSW Department of Education and Training and have been specifically written for volunteer Catholic SRE teachers.
The programs described above commonly explore the significance of human life experiences then relate those to the gospel message. Through a variety of strategies, students respond to what they have learned.
The programs are designed to be most appropriate for the age of the students they have been prepared for. However it may be possible, where necessary, to use the programs with students one year younger or one year older than recommended.
Catechists teaching multi-age classes should discuss their students' needs with the appropriate CCD Regional Co-ordinator.
Workshops are available for Catechist groups on the use of the new teaching programs. Please contact your CCD Regional Co-ordinator.
The Kindergarten Program can be purchased from the Regional CCD Office at Campbelltown. See the contact page for details. The Christ Our Light and Life program may be purchased from:
